our adoption services

We are an approved well established voluntary agency, which provides a full range of adoption services.

Our work includes the recruitment, preparation, assessment and approval of adoptive parents wishing to adopt a child/children from this country.

We work with local authorities to match and place looked after children with families approved by Family Care. We undertake to support these families at all stages of their lives.

Our adoption social work staff are registered with the General Social Care Council, have enhanced CRB clearance, and bring a breadth of skills and experience to the services we offer.

We are registered with the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and work within adoption legislation, most recently the Adoption and Children Act 2002. In line with regulations, we are inspected every 3 years. The last inspection was undertaken by the Commission for Social Care Inspection in May 2008.

In recent years we have developed and led models of good practice across a range of adoption related issues. We have worked on an inter-agency and contract basis with many different Local Authorities and other agencies. This includes contracts to offer counselling to birth family members, consultancy about life story work, training around issues relating to loss and separation.

Late in 2005 we published a book Precious Steps click here for more information.

We welcome enquiries about all aspects of our work.
