domestic violence work
Family Care has a Domestic Violence project, funded by BBC Children in Need.
We provide specialist emotional support for children whose lives have been affected by domestic violence. Early intervention can help to improve children’s wellbeing and help prevent future difficulties.
The project provides a flexible and easily accessible service which understands the sometimes difficult circumstances in which children, young people and their parents are living. We provide an independent non-stigmatising service.
what we offer...
Through short term intervention we
- give children a safe space to talk about what is happening and their feelings
- help deal safely with anger
- raise self esteem
- reduce anxiety
- help raise confidence in interacting with peers
- provide coping strategies for the future
Parents/carers or professionals working with children can make referrals to our service.
We offer flexibility around the number of sessions offered, but usually offer 6-8 weekly sessions. Sometimes children have a break and then come back for further sessions if other changes and difficulties are occurring.
Sessions can take place at Family Care or at other venues, including school. As part of our domestic violence work we plan to offer group work for children affected by domestic violence
