Who Can Adopt?

At Family Care we are looking for families for the many children currently awaiting adoption.

You can be considered as an adoptive parent if you:

  • are 21 or over
  • are single or part of a stable relationship whatever your sexuality
  • have no children
  • already have children and want to increase your family through adoption
  • have grown up children
  • work full time, part time or are not in paid work
  • rent or own where you live

There is no upper age limit that can prevent you from considering adoption but you will have to be over 21, a UK resident and hold no criminal convictions against children.

There are almost 3,000 children, with adoption plans, currently looked after in local authority care. A number of these children will have had very difficult starts in life and need families who can offer them a secure and loving environment during their childhood and into their adult lives. We are looking for adoptive families for:

  • groups of brothers and sisters
  • children from a variety of ethnic, cultural and faith backgrounds
  • children with emotional and behavioural needs
  • children with medical issues or uncertainties in their future
  • children with physical and learning disabilities
  • children of all ages but especially older children
  • children who have experienced considerable upheaval in their lives
